The GC Audio Inherit is the first interchangeable cartridge preamplifier on the market.
It allows its user to have several preamps without having to buy several racks. It also allows you to test several preamplification technologies without having to plug / unplug XLRs from one rack to another.
Unlike the API 500 format, it allows the implementation of high-voltage or high-current multiple-voltage preamplification technologies.
For example, the API 500 format is not designed to power a "full" lamp preamplifier (total absence of Op Amp or transistor substitutes for lamps).
Indeed the heating voltage of two ECC82 (double stage to have a full gain range) consume 240mA while the maximum standardized current of the API 500 format is 130mA per slot.
The Inherit system will therefore give you access to preamps that it is not possible to have on a lunchbox.During a take it will therefore be possible, for example, to compare in a very short time the sound between the sharpness of a transistor preamp or the warm of a tube preamp.
The cartridges are designed around proven designs that have been part of recording studio standards for the past 40 years.

The GC-Audio Inherit system is an innovative audio device that allows you to have many models of preamps with a single rack. It consists of a 19 ’’ 2U chassis which combines the electronic functions common to all preamps (input / output, power supply, meter, volume knobs, low cut, pad, phase inverter, etc.). On the other hand, the electronic part of the preamplification function is deported on a separate cartridge which can be connected to the front face of the rack. Many cartridges are available with very different electronic designs (pre-amplification by transistor, lamps, AOP, balanced / unbalanced by transformer, AOP, etc….) These are inspired by microphone preamps from the best mixing consoles. Numerous improvements have been made to achieve a better signal-to-noise ratio while maintaining the original behavior and tonal color. Particular care has been taken with the power supply, in particular with real plate voltages of around 400V for the tube models in order to guarantee an optimal flow of electrons. The shielding cartridge allows EMC isolation never reached.
Although the system is primarily dedicated to recording studios, its rugged construction allows for heavy touring use for recording engineers who want to use different sound colors without carrying multiple racks. The advantages are numerous: Possibility of having several different microphone preamps without having to buy the environment common to all: Mechanical chassis, power supplies, buttons, meter, etc ... Ability to test multiple sound "colors" by quickly changing cartridges and without having to disconnect / reconnect input / output cables from one device to another. Optimal EMC isolation of the preamplifier thanks to the PCB integrated in a machined cartridge serving as shielding and thanks to the preservation of the audio path on the cartridge. Component quality without compromise: Ultra low noise ICs, ESR low link capacitors, Grayhill switch, IP67 switch and switch, etc.
Philosophy : In the quest for "big sound", a connoted term we've all used at least once in a mix, we get lost a little too quickly in dynamic and tonal correction. A sound that deserves correction from the start deserves, above all, a new take. From an electronic point of view, a "big sound" is above all a frequency signal rich in harmonics, and above all having very good output current resistance. Why the GC-Audio Inherit ?: The notion of "good sound" has a part of subjectivity: it is above all what we are looking for. It is therefore important to be able to quickly test several technologies to obtain the desired result. Consequently, for a warm sound, rich in harmonics, a tube cartridge with transformer balancing is preferred, and for a very flat and precise sound, a transistor cartridge with OA balancing is preferred ... Many combinations are possible and the GC Audio Inherit will give you easy access to many preamps from the mixing consoles used in the biggest recording studios.
In an audio chain, the preamplifier is placed just before digital conversion. It is therefore by definition analog and not emulable.
It is the main element for a good sound recording.
The GC-Audio Inherit was developed to deliver uncompromising audio quality with the goal of upgrading proven designs.
The function of preamps is to process weak signals, so they are very sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
The proprietary Inherit format keeps the sensitive part of the electronic design in a one-piece machined cartridge that serves as a Faraday cage. The performance of electromagnetic shielding is optimal and the concept allows great convenience for the user.
